Places to Stay in the Lake District

The Lake District has everything from bunkhouses to five-star hotels. Ambleside, Keswick, and Windermere have the biggest range. Grasmere and Coniston are quieter. The Gilpin and Linthwaite House are the splurge options. B&Bs and inns are the backbone.

If you're here for The Open 2026 at Royal Birkdale, accommodation in the Lakes fills up. It's a drive to the course but a lot of visitors base themselves here for the week. Book early.

Worth knowing: peak season (Easter, summer holidays, half terms) books out months ahead. Flexible on dates? Spring and autumn are quieter and often better for walking.
